Standing erect and almost naked, my wee Rowan tree has every reason to be proud of itself.
Silhouetted against the gloomy autumn sky. There are no berries left. Not that there was many to begin with! I counted a total of 23.
It may be small but it certainly packed a punch!
At it's peak, the colours were astounding. Rich shades of red and orange.
They now lie manky brown on the ground below
Lastly, the wider view.

It really did look fabulous with its autumn colours. It's been blowing a hoolie here today, I doubt there will be many leaves left anywhere when I next venture out!
ReplyDeleteVery windy here today too Jessica and in a moment of madness I rushed out and chopped back all the tall perennials before the collapsed and did any damage.
DeleteI was impressed by your little tree all along, Angie, but its fall color puts it over the top! I SO wish it would grow here but it doesn't. I expect it needs more of a cold snap to get that beautiful fall color than we can provide.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kris. I'm not sure it was as beautiful last year, I just can't remember but certainly this year it has excelled. I am unsure if it's the cold or reduction of light that brings out the colour. Some homework needed there me thinks :)
DeleteWhat gorgeous autumn colours. Love that shiloutte against the grey sky in the 2nd pic. This seems a pretty upright tree, in contrast to being a wide one, or is that only because it is young?
ReplyDeleteIt is isn't it Julieanne. This is a very upright tree - hence it's name. Size after 10 years is 4m x 1m - it would be ideal for your small garden.
DeleteOh, lots of colour!! Those are glorious reds, Angie - what a great choice of tree :D
ReplyDeleteI am pleased with this tree Amy. Considering the one I actually went for was out of stock last year and it was a compromise.
DeleteAngie, autumn is passing and in November we have no such bright colors like we had in October. But... new spring will be and your sorbus will please you.
ReplyDeleteAfter the wind we are having there will be very little colour left here too Nadezda. I keep telling myself spring won't be too far away!
DeleteBeautiful! Our leaves are going fast now too.
ReplyDeleteSoon all will be bare Marian!
DeleteWhat lovely colours - I can never tell these days whether autumn comes early or late, but your Sorbus certainly did its changes all in the space of one month.
ReplyDeleteDid birds eat the berries, or did they fall off?
Thank you for staying with the tree following and I hope we will all still be together as we pass into another spring next year.
All the best with your winter garden :)
I suspect the berries all fell off Pat. There are a few on the ground under the fallen leaves. I find none of the berries get eaten until it's very cold and mainly by the blackbirds that return every year and as of today I have only caught a glimpse of the male so far this autumn.
DeleteI am glad to continue to take part, I find it an extremely useful topic.
Hello Angie girl ! ... I really like reading a post dedicated to a tree ! ... this one is especially beautiful with Fall colour .. reminds me of my Tiger Eye Sumac .. they go a little more on the golden and orange side but similar leaf structure.
ReplyDeleteYes we do have very similar taste in plants , isn't that funny ? I can't wait to see how Thalia turns out.
I finally got the rest of the bulbs in yesterday while we gathered leaves in 9 BIG bags (not counting previous ones)
It was a WORK day yesterday for sure and I am pooped ! haha
Take care !
Joy : )
I've found taking part in the tree following meme extremely useful. It has encouraged me to be more observant that I would otherwise be Joy.
DeleteWell done on getting all that work done, I braved the gales this morning to cut back some of the very tall perennials before the did any damage to the surrounding plants. My bin in now full and awaiting to be emptied before I can get more done, unless I can borrow my neighbours......now there's an idea.
A beautiful tree, and now it's waiting until spring when new buds appear.
ReplyDeleteIt may only be a small young tree Angie, but as you say it defenetly packs a punch. It can only improve with age.
DeleteThar tree will become more and more spectacular as it grows. I really like the second photo
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, gorgeous foliage! What a great tree. I need to start posting about a tree again. Thanks for the reminder. :)
ReplyDeleteNever got a picture of my Joseph Rock in all its glory Angie, no blue skies, wind, rain and then no leaves!
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful tree it was, thanks for post, i would like to recommend some more plants like this a Exotic plant nursery in Sussex
ReplyDeleteWhat a great year your tree has given you and it's autumn colour was fab, here's to another great Sorbus year :)
ReplyDeleteOh that's rather glowing foliage Angie which must have given you much pleasure. Certainly a case of small is beautiful!
